SharePoint subcontracts can be raised when it is considered that it is more effective to place discrete packages of work outside of the organisation.
This article is referred to in my book, Managing and Implementing SharePoint 2010 Projects. The article describes, from an academic viewpoint and all in ‘my humble opinion’, a procedure that you could adopt under which you could engage the services of a subcontractor, to aid the delivery of SharePoint 2010 or any associated tasks like branding, customising, solutions and feature building.
There’s a good checklist at the end that you could use when thinking of bringing in a SharePoint subcontract to deliver SharePoint or aspects.
